AWESOME IDEA!!

Check out this awesome idea Cheryl Boland on Pender did with her math class. They all went down to the beach with a page of story problems to solve and they did not bring any pencils or paper with them. Students (and teacher) had to represent their understanding of the problem using materials found around them.

Working with Fractions

During our Math Inquiry project teachers discussed how they often find that students struggle with concepts related to fractions (at all grade levels).

Here is a link to some pretty fun activities that explore the idea of "fractals":
  1. Fractals are infinitely complex patterns that are self-similar across different scales. They are created by repeating a simple process over and over in an ongoing feedback loop.
Activities include art projects and hands on model representations.

New Resources

These resources are at the Middle School right now, but please let me know if you would like to access to them, or if you need to replenish your supply of games for social thinking groups!
